Our client who lives in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta was frustrated when he was one of the flood victims of the 2007 flood. The flood affected 80 separate regions in and around Jakarta, and over 70,000 homes were flooded, resulting in the displacement of some 200,000 people. For nearly one week he and his fam¬ily were stuck inside the house without any electricity and clean water.
Driven by desperation and survival, the house is design to be self sustaining in terms of energy and water use.
The roof is design to accommodate the solar panel and rainwater harvesting system as part of the survival techniques.
The application of ventilation brick for the facade is explored in order to assist energy efficiency.
